Most peptide storage guidance is written for laboratories in temperate climates. Egypt is not that. Cairo regularly exceeds 38 °C in summer, delivery vehicles are rarely refrigerated, and power interruptions are a normal part of the year. This changes what careful handling actually requires.
Lyophilised powder is the stable form
Peptides are supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder for a reason. In this form, with the vial sealed and moisture excluded, they are considerably more stable than in solution. Manufacturers generally specify storage at −20 °C, protected from light.
A standard household freezer holds roughly −18 °C, which is close enough for practical purposes. A refrigerator at 4 °C is a different proposition and is appropriate only for short periods.
Why the cold chain matters in transit
The vulnerable window is not storage — it is transport. A vial that spends an afternoon in a delivery van in August has experienced conditions no freezer can undo afterwards.
This is why insulated packaging with cold packs is not a marketing detail. Orders from Space Pep are dispatched from temperature-controlled storage in insulated packaging, which keeps the internal temperature stable for the duration of a domestic delivery in Egypt.
After reconstitution
Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, stability drops sharply. Reconstituted peptide should be refrigerated and used within the window specified for that compound. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles degrade peptides and should be avoided — if a compound will be used across multiple sessions, aliquoting is the standard approach.
Light exposure matters too. Keep vials in their original packaging or otherwise shielded.
Power cuts
A freezer that loses power for a few hours will not immediately compromise sealed lyophilised powder, because the thermal mass of a full freezer buys time. A freezer that is nearly empty warms much faster. Keeping the freezer reasonably full — even with water bottles — is a cheap and effective buffer.
Practical summary
- Store sealed lyophilised powder at −20 °C, away from light
- Do not rely on a refrigerator for long-term storage
- Insist on insulated shipping with cold packs, especially May to September
- Refrigerate after reconstitution and avoid repeated freeze-thaw
- Keep the freezer full to buffer against power interruptions
